The Schoolhouse Gallery, located in the historic California Gold Rush town of Sierra City, is home to nationally recognized local artists and some of the best fine art in the Sierras.
The Schoolhouse Gallery, located in the historic Old Sierra City Schoolhouse, celebrated is Grand Opening on the July 4th weekend, 2010. The Old Sierra City Schoolhouse was built in 1868 and hosted public school classes until being hit by a third avalanche in the winter of 1952. Evidence of the power of those avalanches is still quite evident in the interior of the building.
Fine art generes included in the current collection include: photography, stained glass, hand-made quilts, paintings and art glass. The Gallery expects to add pottery in the near future.
Join the staff of the Gallery and many of the artists at a public reception every fourth Saturday of each month - except for October - when the reception coincides with the Town's Oktoberfest celebration, on the second Saturday of October (Oct. 9, 2010).
During the Summer months *May thru October*, the Gallery is open from 9:00am - 5:00pm Wednesday thru Sunday, or by appointment. Winter hours are from 10:00am - 4:00pm on Saturdays, or by appointment.
